OCTOBER 2020

Our coordinator during one of the soft-skills class

“The secret to getting ahead is getting started.”

Success, as they say, is a journey and not a destination, Our journey to self-reliant developer continues with advanced knowledge of Javascript. we were taught by Mr.Kenny the use of BOM (Browser Object Model) and DOM(Document Object Model).BOM serves as an intermediary between the browser and Javascript which includes Javascript window, history navigator, etc. while DOM defines the logical structure of documents and the way a document is accessed and manipulated. The knowledge was used for the implementation of “drag and drop” which enables objects, files, and documents to be drop on different locations by preventing default. JavaScript is widely known as single-threaded and performs a synchronous operation( an operation can only be performed at a time). This has its limitation for instance where there is a need to fetch information from the server or altering the process by which some functions are to be executed. This led us to write asynchronous functions using Asynchronous JavaScript And XML(AJAX). AJAX uses the combination of browser built-in XMLHttpRequest object (to request data from a web server),JavaScript and HTML DOM (to display or use the data). we learnt the use of callbacks(a function passed as an argument inside another function), promises(which can be in pending, rejected or fulfilled state) as well as async(makes a function to return a promise) and await( as the name implies, makes a function to wait for a promise). All these were followed with practical examples to solidify our knowledge.

Meet-Up on Friday at Abuja

Friday meet-up continues to be an important part of our learning soft skills. Our coordinators Mr. aderoju shamsudeen , Mr. Pishikeni Tukura, and other Guest Lecturers( @justshola__ )took us through the class. we were thought design thinking which helps to be innovative, positive-minded and enhances teamwork. As Mr. Pishikeni Tukura do say, TIIDELab rewards hard work, three of the five fellows who made it to the final stage of the interview were rewarded with cash prizes.

The preceding meet up didn’t take place due to heightened disruptions linked(wrongly) to the #EndSARS protest. Classes and meet up were adjourned. The month was wrapped up the soft skill class where Our Coordinators took us through the nitty-gritty of “product and service pitching”. Members of each team were given time to pitch their projects to a team of experts who judged accordingly and our team won the bronze.

My time at TIIDELab has exposed and improved my personal development. As they say, growth is a continuous process. WE KEEP LEARNING. As stated by Felix Frankfurt. “Gratitude is one of the least articulate of the emotions, especially when it is deep. ”

Thank you TIIDELab,co-fellows and everyone making sure the programme is successful. You are all amazing characters.
